Holy Crap Batman!

The other day I got a recorded message on my answering machine. It seems that the cat food I bought has been recalled. The message said it could contain salmonella.. Yum! It went on to explain that it could cause vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Oh Holy Crap! That’s all I need, cats vomiting and crapping bloody diarrhea all over the house. Can you imagine?? That’s a nightmare. I’m sure there might be some sympathy for the cats, but what about me? I’m the one who has to clean that up. I checked the bag of cat food and there was about one bowlful left, so I did what anyone else would do. I returned the unused portion to the store for a full refund. If I’m gonna have to deal with that crap I want my money back. Then I went over to the pet food aisle and got some salmonella free cat food, but then there was another problem. They were out of the brand of dog food we buy, also due to the salmonella. So now I was faced with the dreaded task of changing the brand of dog food we usually buy. If you don’t have dogs, you just can’t understand the implications of changing their dog food willy-nilly. It’s like playing Russian Roulette with doggie digestion. Let me see if I can put this in perspective for you. Once, one of our dogs found a disgusting, stinky, rotting carcass of a blackbird. He grabbed it before I could stop him and wouldn’t let it go. I couldn’t have pried his mouth apart with the jaws of life. He proceeded to swallow this horrible thing whole. I’m surprised I didn’t throw up just watching. I immediately called the vet. They told me that probably he would throw up and have diarrhea, but call them if it got too bad. I waited and waited in sheer terror for what would happen next…..absolutely nothing. Didn’t cause him any distress at all, but abruptly change his brand of dry dog food and he’d have diarrhea for a week. WTH? So here I am waiting again to see if the cats get salmonella and if the dogs can handle their new food.

  1. LOL! Sorry about the food recall. But, glad you didn’t have to deal with the super gross vomit & diarrea!

You know you have to be careful with the kitty food too. When we got our new kittens last year they couldn’t (I couldn’t) handle the food we had been feeding our other cats. They had horrendous gas! Not just when they used the litter box, but our cute fluffy kittens would go around the house farting, really really awful smelly farts. It took us probably a month of trying new cat food to finally find one that all of our kitties could handle. It was a very bad smelly month.

Its just like how they say not to use this or do that to our kids-how did we survive when we were little?

Tell Little Big Sister that the expression is “passing gas”. We don’t use that (f–t) word. She is just too far from home and without our wonderful influence. I belong to the Word Police and have to be forever vigilent. We sure do miss Little Big Sister. Good luck with your pets.

Yeah, yeah, poor kitties. Poor you! if you had to clean up that kind of mess. When we got our dog from the pound he was a puppy with mad hookworms. He sprayed diarrhea 24/7. I was pregnant at the time. Every time I had to clean up dog poo, I cried…I sobbed. HORRIBLE. Turns out he’d been adopted before, but then returned…Wonder why. We fixed him up though. He’s much better now. I didn’t return him to the pound though I was sorely tempted.

I am laughing out loud at this one! I know all too well about this! My cats have the same problem as your dog. Lucky for us…our dog just goes with the flow on food!

  7. Andrea says:

Um… How did the cat food company know your cat’s phone number?

  8. Sheesh–lot’s going on over there!

  9. Nina says:

I hope the cat survived and the dog handled the new food. I understand because my dogs end up with serious issues any time they eat something they shouldn’t or if we change the food.
