Aloha Friday~Tales from the ER

Friday is the day that Hawaiians take it easy and get ready for the weekend. So in that spirit we’re asking a simple question. Head on over to An Island Lifefor more Aloha Friday fun and to sign Mr. Linky if you’re playing. The question we are asking today is…..

What was your worst experience in the ER?

Almost 2 years ago me, my husband, and both boys had to take a trip to the ER right before Christmas.  It was a bit of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.  My husband went by ambulance, and I drove myself and the boys.  When we arrived I registered all 4 of us!  I asked if they had a buy 2 get 2 free deal….but they didn’t.  After we were in rooms getting plenty of oxygen treatment I got to wheel my oxygen tank between my husband’s room, and the kids room, back and forth, back and forth.  They finally said we could all be in with my husband.  They had him hooked up to a bunch of stuff including a heart monitor.  The boys were super hyped up at this time and were talking a mile a minute.  And then we noticed something…every time the kids would talk my husbands heart rate went up!  It was an on the spot stress tester!!  All in all it was a very, very expensive night at the ER!

I’m going with my latest ER visit which was a little over a week ago. It was my second visit in a week and I was in excruciating pain. I expected a long wait before they finally called me back, but after that I still waited another 4 hours before they even hooked up an IV, never mind pain meds. It was another hour after that. All in all, I’m pretty sick of the ER and I’m hoping this stupid issue finally goes away and I’ll feel better.

Due to my medical condition, I have spent a lot of time in ERs. I am fortunate to never have had a bad experience.

Thankfully neither of my kids have been in E.R. My parents have both been there though and we’ve had to deal with security who never wants to let us in.

  3. I’ve rarely had to be in the ER…thank goodness. The worst was when my son cut his finger and it was bleeding badly, though. I wanted to get him in to see a doctor A.S.A.P. because I was scared stiff but saw that things were moving slowly and also saw someone pass out on the floor of the waiting area. Not a good time.

  4. My worst has to be mine… anytime I go is horrible because I rarely feel the need. But, when I went because of migraines and they blew me off for hours… not good.

  5. I cut my leg with a glass bottle and they needed to make some stiches. As it happended in the middle of the night, the people in ER were really grumpy and not so nice.

Thankfully I have never been a patient in ER, but I just hate all of the waiting when you take someone there.

I hate the ER. Our worst trip involve a dehydrated four year old and a night sitting at her bedside in those uncomfortable metal chairs. Or maybe it was the time my mom had a fake stroke which turned out just to be a headache which took us 7 hours to finally get discharged because we kept getting ignored by the staff…sigh.

Both of your experiences sound awful. Stacy, I can’t believe all of you had carbon monoxide poisoning. I am glad everything turned out ok.

Elle, I hope you feel better soon. I can’t believe you are going through all of this. Take care of yourself!
