Halloween Fun on a Rainy Weekend Before Frankenstorm

Halloween is in a few days and we are all hoping that trick-or-treat doesn’t turn into a total washout with Hurricane Sandy heading everyone’s way. We did get to the Halloween Parade on Friday. I was frantically finishing J-Man’s Knight costume and made it with really only seconds to spare.
The parade is a big deal and the kids look forward to it every year. They have the high school marching band start the parade and close down one of the streets. It’s always fun to see all the costumes and to try and recognize friends. Once they get to the park, the fire department is there with donuts and cider and the police hand out trick or treat bags with candy. Then they head over to the costume contest. It’s pretty tough competition and you can tell some people have been working on their costumes since the previous Halloween. J-Man won the year I threw together a pirate costume at the last minute.
I think having the Black Pearl Pirate Ship Tent we bought on clearance at the Disney Store really sealed the deal. My husband taped it to J-Man’s wagon and he pulled his pirate ship around behind him.
Today we plan on making the frosted Halloween cookies and we will carve our pumpkins. I don’t know about your family, but deciding on what to carve takes almost as long as the actual carving at our house.
J-Man isn’t that into Tinker Bell, although he doesn’t exactly leave the room and I may or may not have caught him watching it when it’s on, but I thought these activities looked fun for a rainy weekend before Halloween. Fun Ideas tied to the just released 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download of Secret of the Wings featuring Tinker Bell and her fairy friends.
What Halloween acitivities does your family look forward to?
