Friday was pajama day, so that was easy. J-Man wore his pajamas to school all day, then when he got home he insisted on changing into his clothes before he went out to play. I tried to convince him that it was okay since he’d worn them all day at school, but he wouldn’t have any part of it. Today was Career Day and tomorrow is field day. These theme days are fun for the kids, but so difficult for me. Really, I’m just like the kids. It’s the end of the school year and I don’t want to do anything. I’m all schooled out. I’m sick of making lunches and checking backpacks and homework. I don’t want to worry about what silly thing they need to bring in each day.

At least Career Day upped my cool factor with J-Man. At first he wanted to dress up like a police man. He doesn’t want to be a police man when he grows up, he was just trying to come up with something to wear. Well, when I couldn’t find any freakin’ toy police badges kicking around the house we switched to being a doctor. There’s no way he’ll ever be a doctor when he grows up either. He hates the sight of blood or any bodily fluids. He hates gross things and has sensory issues, so he won’t be touching any patients. But once again, it was just something to wear. I grabbed a white dress shirt to use as a lab coat and my stethoscope. I draped that around his shoulders and there was Dr. J-Man. He asked me about the stethoscope and I told him it was the one I used when I was an EMT. Well, that brought up the “What’s an EMT?” I told him about working on an ambulance and then came the next question. “Were you the one who stayed in the back or did you drive the ambulance?” I told him that sometimes I rode in the back and the other times I got to drive the ambulance and use the siren and drive really fast and make people pull over. His eyes lit up and he said “Cool!” Oh ya! That’s me! The cool mom, just for today, anyway.

Sissy had her DARE Graduation tonight. She had to read her winning poem in front of the whole school and all the parents. She was so nervous I thought for sure that she would be throwing up her eggplant parm all over the podium. She didn’t and she managed to read her poem. She did a super job and afterwards she was so proud of herself! She looked so grown-up and as I watched her walk across the stage to get her DARE Diploma, I couldn’t help but think that it will be her real diploma in no time at all.

Keely at The Un-Mom started Random Tuesday Thoughts and we thought we would join in the fun.
