{"id":683,"date":"2009-03-03T10:47:31","date_gmt":"2009-03-03T14:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bluemonkeybutt.com\/home\/?p=683"},"modified":"2009-03-03T10:47:31","modified_gmt":"2009-03-03T14:47:31","slug":"no-offensebut-youre-ugly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bluemonkeybutt.com\/home\/2009\/03\/03\/no-offensebut-youre-ugly\/","title":{"rendered":"No Offense&#8230;But You&#039;re Ugly!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The other day I was watching t.v. with our youngest son, and a commercial came on.\u00a0 He said to me, <em>&#8220;No offense, but that guy is ugly!&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0 I said, <strong>&#8220;honey that&#8217;s not nice to say, you don&#8217;t say things like that about people&#8221;.<\/strong>\u00a0 To his defense the guy <em>was<\/em> ugly, but that&#8217;s not the point.\u00a0 This starts a whole conversation between us.\u00a0 <em>&#8220;Mom, it&#8217;s okay to say that because I said no offense&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0 <strong>&#8220;Um, no that&#8217;s not okay to say even if you say no offense&#8221;.<\/strong>\u00a0 <em>&#8220;Yes it is, it means you don&#8217;t mean any offense, so\u00a0what you say people can&#8217;t get mad at&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0 This is the logic of an 8 year old.\u00a0 I told him that they are not some magic words you can say and then say anything you want.\u00a0 To this he says, <em>&#8220;well there was a kid at school and their shirt didn&#8217;t cover their stomach and I told them that they needed to lose some weight&#8221;.\u00a0 &#8220;But don&#8217;t worry, I said No Offense first.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/em>AHHHHHH!\u00a0 Oh <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">shit<\/span>!\u00a0 Crap in a crapbasket! How do I convey to an 8 year old that this is not acceptable?\u00a0 And who do I have to thank for his new found logic?\u00a0 Huh?\u00a0 Spongebob?\u00a0 Drake and Josh?
