Road Trips and Psycho Dentists

Stacy

If it’s Tuesday this must be Random Tuesday Thoughts. It used to be brought to you by Keely at The Un-Mom but she’s taking a hiatus. Okay, it’s been a really long hiatus but Random Tuesdays still rock on with help from Stacy.

Mom, and anyone afraid of the dentist, don’t read any farther. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Stacy

Last week I went on vacation to NY to visit my wonderful sister Elle and some friends in Michigan. These are my random thoughts about my trip.

I think I need to stay with my Sister more often. She fed us Prime Rib, corn on the cob, fudge, chocolate rice krispie treats, cake, and the next morning; coffee cake. We ate better there than we did all the other days of our trip combined!!!

Michigan roads suck!! (sorry about the language Mum, but they do!) Every single road is under construction and when you see a sign that says, “End Construction”, they are lying, there’s just more construction. And whoever makes the orange barrels that they put in the road must be rich, because every single orange barrel is in the State of Michigan. You would think there. You would think there would be more jobs with all the “road work” signs.  Although, I think they only put up the signs, put out the barrels, rip the road up and then leave it.  Seriously, the worst roads in the country.

Other than the sucky roads, it was beautiful out there.  My boys liked it so much they wanted to move out there.  Yeah, because that’s easy to do.  Yes, I could buy a semi-new house for $50,000, but I don’t have a job out there.  Maybe I could find a job putting orange barrels all over the roads…….hmmmmmm

My boys were surprisingly good in the car.  For each 8 + hour trip, they were really good.  It did help that Thing 2 wanted the “drowsy car sick pills”, (dramamine), and then they were so worn out from everything that they just ended up sleeping most of the time.

Going back to road construction for a minute.  I’ve come to realize that I do NOT like when they make one lane and have concrete barriers on each side.  It makes the lane so small, I keep thinking I’m going to scrape my car trying to squeeze through.  I also realized that when I drive through lanes like that I make a high pitch squealing noise, cringe, and hold my breath.  That should make my car fit better.

Elle

I’m happy to have Stacy back. Well, it was nice to have her and her family out for a visit, but it’s nice to have her on the site too. She called me wonderful, in writing, and I didn’t need to pay her! Wicked awesome!

Monday brought a dog with diarrhea and a root canal. Way to bring the fun to the party Monday!

Did you know that they use a hot glue gun during a root canal? I sure didn’t. I’m feeling like a discarded Martha Stewart craft project. You know, the one that didn’t make it on her show or her website.

I’m terrified of the dentist. I blame it on a bad dentist in my childhood and the movie “The Dentist”. There were actually several of them and they would play almost every night I was working dispatch during my overnight shifts at the police department. They were awful movies with a psycho dentist, played by Corbin Bernsen, who would strap people in the chairs and go to work on them with his drill and pliers. It was absolutely horrifying and totally confirmed that being afraid of dentists was completely normal.

Open Wide

Seriously, can you blame me?? Now Corbin Bernsen plays a completely normal, not-psychotic, retired police detective on one of my favorite shows, Psych. So he has redeemed himself, but I’m still afraid of dentists.

One other movie that was always playing at the time was Twister. OMG! It seemed like HBO had a Twister channel that played that movie all the time. It was a good movie, but I didn’t want to see it non-stop.

Don’t forget to join us for What the Hell Wednesday tomorrow. We are really going to post one this week!
