Going to Ring the Bell

Well it’s official, I am a football mom.  Football mom, as in having to drop off and pick up our son almost every night at football practice.  Volunteer to work at the snack shack on game day.  Wash his practice and game uniform every night.  Not have a life of my own for the next 2 months.  And also, going to beg for money.  I wasn’t really pleased about it, I’ve never had to stand outside a store and ask for donations.  I’m not what you would call a “team player”.  But I was not going to pay $50 each time to get out of it.  So, much to my dismay, we had to go “tagging”.  Which if you don’t know is another word for begging for money.  Although, I didn’t have to do the begging, my son did.  But before it was time he asked me,
“Mom, when do we have to go ring the bell?”
“Huh?  What do you mean ring the bell?”  And then it dawns on me, begging for money, ring a bell, oh crap, he thinks we are the Salvation Army!  Of course, why didn’t I think of that!  To an 8 year old, that’s begging for money.

I explained the difference between “tagging”, and the Salvation Army asking for donations.  And how donations help organizations, etc……..Besides, the Salvation Army gets paid a little something, and we don’t.  He did get a free slush puppy from the gas station we were at, so he was wicked excited about that!
