Meow Monday – A Boy and His Cat

You hear about a boy and his dog but you don’t hear a lot about a boy and his cat. Why is that? Cats make great pets and companions for children as well as adults. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs and it would feel strange not to have one, or more. But a cat is just as wonderful a companion as a dog.

Our cat George picked J-Man as his boy as soon as we brought Georgie home. They are the best of friends and J-Man’s life is richer for it. If he has a good day, or a bad day, George is right there with his calm steady gaze always ready to listen to what J-Man might say or to sit there next to him in quiet companionship.

George hates having a closed-door between them and will stand on his hind legs and rattle the doorknob with his front paws until J-Man opens it and let him in. I love how close they are and that they are best buddies. There’s something special about having that close bond with your pet that J-Man will carry with him through the rest of his life and he will be more empathetic to other people and animals because of his friendship with George.
