New School Year Resolutions

Elle

Monday holidays always throw me off for the rest of the week. Today is the last day of summer vacation. Sigh

I’m not ready for school to start tomorrow and I know at least one of my children is totally dreading it. I just hope this year is better than last year.

This is J-Man’s last year in elementary school and he has 3 other kids in his class who went to nursery school with him. It’s nice he is ending elementary school with some of the kids he started school with. Which also means I know at least 3 other moms and I’m good friends with 2 of them. Making mom-small-talk isn’t my favorite thing.

I’ve been making my New School Year Resolutions, kind of like New Year’s resolutions but without all the confetti, weird glasses, and funny hats. Oh, and without all the alcohol and fun.

1. I’m not cooking 4 different meals for all the picky eaters in my family or 3 meals and McDonalds. Seriously, between J-Man’s allergies, my husband deciding he’s a sort-of-vegan-but-not-really-who-will-only-eat-expensive-organic-food and my daughters who only want cheeseburgers, I’m at a loss as to what to cook every night. It’s pretty damn frustrating. My new plan is to cook one meal with a lot of vegetables and then whoever doesn’t like it can have cereal or scrambled eggs depending on their vegan status.

2. I’m not going to be the only one helping J-Man with his homework. My husband goes and jams with his band 2 nights a week, the other 2 nights he can be the homework helper.

3. Our older two daughters will plan and cook a meal every Tuesday (which is also my night off from homework help). I tried to institute that rule this past summer without much success. My husband ended up doing most of the cooking because he couldn’t leave them alone. At one point I went into the kitchen and the girls were sitting around and he was cooking. Either way, I figured it was still a win for me since I didn’t do the cooking.

4. The girls will feed and walk the dogs on a schedule with me. I’m tired of being the only one taking care of them every night.

5. I’m working on being more organized. I say that, but you realize I haven’t filled out any of the mountains of paperwork they need for school tomorrow and I haven’t bought one single item from their school supply lists. Okay, so it will be an uphill battle.

6. If you need something signed, emailed, or filled out, don’t give it to me at the last minute. Also, if you forget something at home, it will stay at home.

What are your New School Year Resolutions?

Stacy

As much as I knew I had yesterday off for the Monday holiday, I completely forgot that today was Tuesday!  The only reason I noticed was because I went onto FB and saw someone had posted their Random Tuesday Thoughts.  Of course I was sitting here thinking, “gee, they’re doing those a day early huh?”  And that’s when I realized that today was Tuesday.  If that wasn’t random (and rambling) I don’t know what is!

This morning dropping Thing 1 & 2 off to school, Thing 1 started freaking out that he didn’t have his schedule.  And of course that is my fault.  Okay, re-read the first sentence HIS SCHEDULE!!!!  But somehow it is always Mom’s fault when they don’t have something.  I cleaned the whole house yesterday and never came across it, so I haven’t touched it at all.  Ugh!!

If it’s Tuesday this must be Random Tuesday Thoughts. It used to be brought to you by Keely at The Un-Mom but she’s taking a hiatus. Okay, it’s been a really long hiatus but Random Tuesdays still rock on with help from Stacy.

Don’t forget to join us tomorrow for What the Hell Wednesday!
